View Full Version : If same-sex marriage is taught

in our public schools as a viable alternative to traditional marriage, how would you feel about this?
It is starting to look like Prop 8 will not pass. And the California judges will have essentially created law for the state of California.
I am gravely concerned about this. I don't hate gay people, I just have a moral objection to their behavior, just like I have a moral objection to premarital sexual relations between men and women. It is the behavior I do not want legitimized by our public schools, and by our public school teachers that my children learn from.
If same-sex marriage is allowed in California and other states, there is no way that the Federal Government will allow other states to not recognize those same-sex marriages performed in California. It will eventually become the law of the land, or put to a national vote.
IMO, same-sex marriage will set government and religion on an eventual collision course.

Agreed, plus it will drive up the cost of business, insurances and related benefits will cost more. Eventually the guy that does things "right" will be the one paying the bill, trying to keep his family going, finding himself in tougher times and condemned by those he feels is morally wrong.

The homosexual, bi-sexual, trans-sexual agenda invaded the Episcopal Church shortly after they began to "ordain" women priests. One reason (in my opoinion) was because many of the women ordained were either lesbians or sympathec to lesbianism.
Let's face it, we are living in the last days and these godless philosophies are becoming more and more acceptable in the secular arena. I personally think that anybody interested in instilling traditional values in their children should pull them out of the public school systems and home school them.
Our pastor has four children, and none have ever set foot in a public school. All the children are taught at home from curriculums bought from Christian sources. Some may say these children are over protected, blah, blah, blah. But you know what, these children are some of the best behaved kids I have ever met. Trust me, if I had it to do over again, I would have quit my job and taught my children at home. Better to have a little less money but children not being subjected to a godless anti-christ education system.
In our town, Calvary Chapel, whose pastor's children also have never been taught in the public system, has started a k-12 Christian Academy with a low cost tuition. Christians need to be protecting their children during these times, because the enemy roars around seeking whom he may devour - and our children are prime targets.

Agreed, I have see over the years a trend to allow Hollywood to be the moral compass for the secular world......God help us!

This has always been the way of the secular. What is more alarming is the error creeping back into the church. Or more to the point boldly striding in with no fear of God. I say "back" as this, also, isn't new.

What do you mean we are living in the last days?
We have come a long way since pagan Rome. What will you pessimist say if the Church has a huge resurgence?

The same thing the church has always said. Praise God...The Lord is coming soon.
Rev 22:6 And he said unto me, These words are faithful and true: and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angels to show unto his servants the things which must shortly come to pass.
Rev 22:7 And behold, I come quickly. Blessed is he that keepeth the words of the prophecy of this book.
Rev 22:8 And I John am he that heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel that showed me these things.
Rev 22:9 And he saith unto me, See thou do it not: I am a fellow-servant with thee and with thy brethren the prophets, and with them that keep the words of this book: worship God.
Rev 22:10 And he saith unto me, Seal not up the words of the prophecy of this book; for the time is at hand.
Rev 22:11 He that is unrighteous, let him do unrighteousness still: and he that is filthy, let him be made filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him do righteousness still: and he that is holy, let him be made holy still.
Rev 22:12 Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to render to each man according as his work is.
Rev 22:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.
Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that wash their robes, that they may have the right to come to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city.
Rev 22:15 Without are the dogs, and the sorcerers, and the fornicators, and the murderers, and the idolaters, and every one that loveth and maketh a lie.
Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright, the morning star.
Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And he that heareth, let him say, Come. And he that is athirst, let him come: he that will, let him take the water of life freely.
Rev 22:18 I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto them, God shall add unto him the plagues which are written in this book:
Rev 22:19 and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book.
Rev 22:20 He who testifieth these things saith, Yea: I come quickly. Amen: come, Lord Jesus.
Rev 22:21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with the saints. Amen.

Indeed, Jesus will return quickly like a thief in the night. What I am disagreeing with is that it will be preceded by the Churches ultimate failure.

I'm not seeing Ath saying that Rad. Where are you getting this from? Sometimes our internal dialogs tend to impress themselves on what we read. I do see the secular world invading the church...but as I said this is nothing new.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong.
I see the Church growing around the world, growing sillier here in the US, and yet see a strain of orthodoxy growing here. I pray that God will continue to advance his Kingdom.

Ah...I think I see the disconnect. How we view the Millenium does tend to color our views of what is happening now. Many folks have never studied the various different flavors so they don't really know how it affects thier view. Me personally I'm still studying.

And even if we hold to a pessimistic view of the Kingdom, we should recognize the work God is and has done in the church.

Yes, and boldly posting on CARM, as well. Error is now acceptable, and even considered holy.

Thanks, Ath. I am very concerned about this trend to force stuff into our society, and into God's divine institution of marriage, and into our schools as a government mandate. Unfortunately, I think it is coming.

I don't know if you listen to Focus on the Family with Dobson, but he said a few years ago that Christians should get their kids out of public schools, that they were godless, and we are responsible for the moral education of our children. Public schools are infiltrated by NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and the Homosexual, Bisexual, Transgender agendas. Get your kids out while you can.

Rather than retreat.... homeschooling isn't an option for everyone, nor is a private Christian school.... TALK TO YOUR OWN KIDS. They are yours, God-given, for a time. Use what they are being taught to teach them about God. Use the world's flawed teaching system to teach your kids about humanity's sin problem. It's a great time to present the Gospel to your kids. What the world means for evil, God can use for His glory.
Don't fret and worry. We are members of another kingdom. Beware of making the government or education an idol.

That's good advice Julie, IMO. Speaking from personal experience. My wife and I home-schooled, back when no one was doing it, early 80's. We tired private schooling as well. Now with the "new kids" we have two in a private academy and two in the public system. I feel, in this area, that the public schools are superior in adapting to the kids with "special needs" and offer things that are needed for others. On the other hand the private academy excels in academics, but I am fed up with the two to three hours of homework at night and having to be involved all the time, above the role of parenting. Personally, and I am sure this is not the case in every area, I feel the public school system is a better choice in this area for an involved parent. Most of the teachers are Christian or at least sympathetic to our faith, and the curriculum is fairly benign.

I love Dr. Dobson. I know he likes to exclude Mormons from his day of prayer, but I still think he is a wonderful man, and is doing a very good work for God.
Public schools are better or worse depending on where you live. They aren't that bad here in my county, but I know they are bad in other areas around the country. We haven't banned the word Christmas, yet. But, it's only a matter of time, I suppose, until the agenda for all public schools is nationalized.
I think that is one of Barak Obama-nation's ideas, to do that. And to start with ages 0-3 to begin to 'educate' them.
On the other hand, I believe that opposition can produce strength, that is as long as the home is allowed to teach the revealed word of God, and as long as parents sacrifice their own selfish interests to teach their children with care and diligence. We must after all be "in the world" and at the same time be not "of the world".

Great comment. Teach by faith, and guard your children like the very pupil of your eye. I think God gave us such a stewardship as children, so as to be a refining influence upon us as parents, so we would learn to sacrifice our own desires for the sake of some one else. Greater love hath no man...
