Here are two good sites about our national debt:

This one (http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/)seems to be good, although I haven't followed all of the links.

However, towards the bottom of the first page you will find:

Grandfather Economic Report on Federal Government Debt (http://home.att.net/~mwhodges/debt.htm)

I have been reading this site for a while this morning and it is quite interesting and informative.
We have a real problem with our national debt and our fiat currency and fractional reserve banking (http://goldismoney.info/forums/showthread.php?t=3993).

We are handing down to our children and children's children a real nightmare where they will be forced to slave away under a hopeless tax burden. They will be in servitude to the government far more than we are. We have to work 5-1/2 months to pay all of our taxes. Their situation will be much worse. I hope that we will all study up on these things and think hard about the consequences. We are becoming more and more a socialistic nation. This has occurred through both republican and democratic governments. Our government and it's regulations just keep on growing out of control.

BTW, I'm not making a judgement on the gold is money site one way or the other. This is just a good place to send people to get a summary of how our money system works. The guy's post at the top is a summary chapter from Edward G. Griffin's The Creature From Jekyll Island, A second Look at The Federal Reserve System. Griffin's book is a very good book about how the FED works. Our fiat currency is based on debt and will eventually become worth less and less as our currency is debased.
