My sister is trying to grow cucumbers in West Virginia (to make pickles), but something is eating the leaves.
She never could catch the culprit(s) in action, so she decided to bring them inside and grown them in a planter on the windowsill.
I'm still waiting for another update on the situation.

The only thing I've got going are a couple of tomato plants in those hanging thingies. I did mine from ice cream buckets, though, instead of the apparatus you see on TV for it. So far so good, although I definitely need a place to hang them that has the proper amount of sunshine or else they're going to be spindly.

My back garden is doing ok. The gophers got lots of my plants, which were originally in the flower beds in the front. I transplanted what few plants were left to the back. Then ... the gophers found my back garden!
I bought a device that drops poison pellets into the gopher holes, which seems to help some. I also bought a sound device that emits a sound that supposedly the gophers don't like. Not really sure if that is working, but it's planted in the garden and putting off a strange sound every couplde minutes. Solar powered, so don't need batteries! Needs charging every 21 days.
Back garden: watermelon, squash, cucumbers, cantaloupe, hot peppers, green peppers, sage, tons of garlic, onions, and marigolds. Oh yes, lots of greens, coming along just fine.
More greens in one of the front flower beds. And they are growing so fast and big and that I can't keep up with all the greens.
I have six flower beds in the front now, and most of the plants are doing pretty good. I cut off a bunch of stems from the geraniums and stuck them into the ground. Most of them are surviving. So I should have plenty of geraniums to transplant to the other flower beds.
Now I have to keep the neighbor's huge dog out of the flower beds. She has gottern into four flower beds so far and damaged lots of plants. I'm still working on fencing in everything ....
Bad news ... My beautiful Rose Glow Japanese Barberry seems to be dying ... The nursery told me it is guarenteed for one year. I may need to dig it up and take it back for an exchange ... I'd like to add a couple more, as they are a nice addition to the flower beds.

A combination of work taking all my time, unusual amounts of rain keeping it soggy, and a touch of laziness kept me from planting much this year. I had some nice broccoli and cabbage from an early planting, best I've evr grown for size. Now all I have is a bunch of tomato plants, which are doin well. I may yet plant some summer squash, cucumbers and snap beans- I don't think it's too late for that. Too late for corn and winter squash I think.
I'm thinking of getting a rear tine tiller next year, if money works out. The Mantis is getting to be more work than I want to do. :L40:

My oldest son and I are going to plant some corn, hopefully soon! Try using raised beds, and mixing some kind of mulch, which will help with the soggy ground problem. You could mix some sand and rocks to help with drainage.

Green peppers are looking good and I have a tomato plant that grows more than an inch a day.
You folks in the South get a longer growing season, here in Michigan we are just two weeks in from the last frost.

Our last frost was probably in middle to late March. Some years we have a very light frost in early April. We didn't get our brief hail storm in April this year ... !!! I really missed that!
