This Confession has become the standard for many Reformed Churches who have followed in the Calvinist theological traditions. It was proposed in 1646 by the Church of England (Anglican) and was quickly adopted by the Presbyterians and the Church of Scotland. The English Parliment commissioned "learned, godly and judicious divines" to meet at The Westminster Abby to propose these doctrines. As such, the document has become the advice of these men for the purpose of unity and singleness of mind for those who agree with them. Following the adoption of this Confession it has become the core of the Congregational churches after being modified into the Savoy Declaration (1658) and the Baptist into the Second London Baptist Confession (1689).
