Here's what we look like around here. We're still on generator power off and on during the day. We should maybe have some power by Wednesday evening. Power poles are down for hundreds of miles in this area, so some of these rural folks have already been told it may be a month or longer...bless their hearts.

Great pictures, Terri. I like the first one, it looks like a black and white photo except for the red fire hydrant. If it wasn't for the ice on the trees, I think your experiencing a normal winter day in Michigan. We woke up to a little bit of snow and 6 degrees this morning. It snows a little bit almost every night because of the "lake effect" we get from Lake Michigan.
I know that the ice has caused a lot of trouble across the South. We'll keep you in our prayers.
Have you got your power back on yet?

No, no power yet. We're hearing that it might be on Wednesday night. John and I went to another little town last night to pick up a couple of things at the grocery store, and power poles were snapped in several places. We've heard that literally hundreds in about a 50 mile radius are down. There are bunches of extra power companies here helping, but it just takes time for the poles to be replaced. This is actually a little worse than in was in 2002 when we had our first go round of days without power due to ice...at almost the exact same time of year...lol. The sun came out back then and aided in melting, but we aren't getting sun this time, and we keep having freezing fog, which is what makes the crystals on everything...pretty, but kinda strange to watch accumulate...lol.
I bet you all get some REALLY hairy weather from the lake effect at times.
Thanks for the prayers, we all appreciate it. We're all pretty much okay, but I sure feel for those who are alone or elderly in particular. The livestock are doing okay, staying fed and watered, and generally just biding their time...lol.

We call that ice build up hoar frost, up in these parts. We usually get it around lakes and rivers where the water is warmer than the air. When the mosture hits something cold it builds up and looks frosted.
It's eery to get a storm like that. When the power goes out you can sit in your home, feel it getting colder and hear the branches breaking from the trees around your house. The whole time your wondering about whether or not there is damage to your property.
I have a wood stove and plenty of wood to burn, it will keep us warm in those situations. I was burning wood early in the winter, but my wife likes the furnance heat better. It warms the whole house.
