Well we are told He chastises those He loves, so I guess we could see the up side of this as loving chastisement, showing us we can do no good thing without Him.

I think so. At least we can hope that this nation will repent and get back on track after being chastened. On the other hand, if she doesn't, what can we expect?

Wrath. The rain will fall on the just and the unjust. It'll at least be a way of burning away the dross because the ChINOs (Christians in name only--took that from Rino-republicans in name only...LOL!) will fall away in the cleansing. Probably a good time to search our hearts and examine our faith ala Paul's advice.
