View Full Version : 60-Day Blitz Aftermath, and Hunger Pains

Back in 2007 I started a 60-Day Blitz to lose weight and gain muscle. I did well for a while. I went from 366 to 343 and made some serious improvements on my health. Earlier 2009 I switched gears in an attempt to sell my house. I gained all of my weight back.
So I decided that in 2010, before I hit my 50th birthday that I want to get below 300. I went to weight watchers for a while and lost about 17 pounds. That jump started me. I then started my 60-Day Blitz style workout. In addition, I was doing the Insanity Workout. I did not lose any more weight.
Eventually, I injured both of my knees and had to Rehab one of them with leg extensions and leg curls. The other was healed…I couldn’t stop my momentum. So I kept working out and decided to count calories and estimate what I needed to limit myself to in order to drop 2-3 pounds a week.
Well, it has worked. I am now walking about 18 miles a week, weight training 4 days a week, and counting calories. My weight today is about 333 pounds. I think that I have put it all together and everything is working. I can see how slip ups can happen. Day to Day I have to be diligent.
Another lesson is this, to lose weight I have to feel hunger pains for part of the day.
34 pounds to get to my 2010 goal with five and a half months to go.

Blessings.
It is soooo... hard. My brother told me he would treat my wife, kids and I to Disney if I lost 50 pounds, he lives in Florida. That would, he said, put me within a healthy weight. He is also a doctor and watches over us, gives us advice and so forth. I was doing well for a while, but I seem to be maintaining the current weight I am at. Have a lot of work to do. One thing, I am too lazy to work out regularly. I use to to a regular work out twice a day, six days a week. I was pretty healthy then. Since I got this blood disease, it seems I don't have the energy any more. My wife though, is doing he work outs and loosing her weight. :mickey::whip::bigcry:
Keep up the good work, Joe.

Figure out your BMI (http://nutritiondata.self.com/tools/calories-burned) and subtract 1,000. This will give you the amount of calories allowed so that you may lose two pounds a week. Add exercise and weight loss increases.
I know. I know. Easier said than done...
My work day includes a banana, apple, and orange. Some days I'll have eggs and other days I have oatmeal. Some days I'll have three hardshell tacos. Other days, a 6 inch chicken sub. This usually works out to between 950 and a 1,000 calories. Then after work, I exercise then I go home and eat. Then walk....

I don't see any pop, pie, large steak and potato, a couple of glasses of beer, lasagna, cheese burgers or fried fish dinners on that list. :L47:

My daughter's going through a difficult time with her weight, and it's like I told her...the only way I was ever able to lose weight and maintain it was calorie counting. I've always had to battle weight...or at least up until I turned 50. For some reason I lost weight then and am almost back to my highschool weight of 140ish, which is a little heavier than some women like, but I've always been rather long limbed, so at 5'7" it's not too bad. Anyhow...FWIW I think calorie counting is the way to go, and you really don't have to have hunger pangs. You just learn some really low cal or no cal things to eat in between times. I used an unhealthy amount when I was young, cause I wanted it fast, plus, I have an addictive personality, so when I found myself seeing how far below 500 calories a day I could get and still be eating, I figured I'd better lay off that for a while...lol. It's difficult...no two ways about it.
Anyhow...good job!

I just saw this. Good for you, Joe!!! I will be praying that you find the resolve to continue to your weight goal.
I'm only (only!! lol) 215, but if you can return the prayer I'm looking to get down about 43 pounds myself. :)

Umm. You should not eat less than 1200 calories per day.
I've heard a rule of thumb is to MAINTAIN weight you need calories equal to 10 times your weight. Anything under that plus exercise and you lose.
Another help might be www.thedailyplate.com/ (http://www.thedailyplate.com/) This is a site where you can track your calories. It has a database of foods and you can look up the calories that way. By creating menus and/or putting in the foods you eat it will calculate your daily intake. It will work for free for a time (either the last 45 or 90 day) or you can pay and it keeps the data continuously.
My day also includes a banana, apple, and orange.
1 banana split, 1 slice of apple cobbler and orange meringue pie (better than lemon!). But those three fruits don't seem to be taking my weight off :L51:

I typically take in an average of 2300 calories a day. Weightlifting Workout days, add 500 for protein....
