Over on the A/C board on CARM, somebody was saying that saving in Acts 16:31 did not refer to spiritual but to physical life.
Ever heard this one? If so, extrapolate.

The poster is Rhuckle.
I don't believe Paul is talking salvation in this verse; I believe he is talking about physical life as jailers were killed when prisoners escaped. Let's face it, when ONE individual believes--that does NOT mean his whole house is saved by proxy.
MAESTROH:
I'm a little lost here since the folks are then baptized....but maybe I have no clue what I'm talking about.

I don't know where he's getting that idea. For one thing, Paul assured him that they were all there, so there was no escape. The keeper wasn't even going to WAIT for the magistrate to order him killed, he was going to kill himself! Granted the keeper took them to his house, but it is obvious that God is at work here because apparently no alert was put out that they were missing (so either there is only one keeper and no guards or God protected the whole operation), the word was preached to the keeper and his household, they were all baptised, and the next morning the sergeants were sent by the magistrate to tell the keeper to let them go. If anything, the declaration by Paul should fit right in with rlhuckle's ideas about God absolutely controlling everything we say and do, because it would mean that God had chosen the keeper and his family to be believers, and Paul was merely vocalizing it.
There was no "by proxy" about it. The word was preached to ALL in his household. They ALL believed and were baptised.
Sounds more like a knee-jerk response that actually reading the chapter to me.

You are dealing with hyper-Calvinist lone ranger on that one. He has several marbles running loose inside his skull.

Man, Trav, you're really hitting the eggnog (not to mention a few of the posters) a little harder today.
LOL
Unfortunately, we Baptists are not allowed to drink such alcoholic things. Although Baptists are actually getting more liberal; we're starting to wave at one another in the liquor store now.

I don't even need my hat to cover my beer can when the preacher does a drop in anymore.
