I kinda wondered that myself. I haven't heard any followup on it. I can remember watching footage once of a plane crash where wind sheer caught it. Apparently, it's something that pilots deal with all the time. And this plane did circle for about 15 minutes and then made a safe landing, so I don't know if this was a sheer, a powerful gust, or what. But he deserves a medal or something...wow.
