We hear a lot about the economy effecting politics. Does this effect your thinking when voting in federal, state and local elections.

Ted, economic policy has a direct impact on how I vote.

Do you take that even to state and local elections? I asked that because up until this year I haven't paid that much attention on the local level, I pretty much have thought along partisan lines with some exceptions, but it seems that I am looking at that more and more. And in this area, there is little difference in economic policy on the local level.

I especially take it to the local and state level. State and local taxes, zoning initiatives and business philosophies have a direct impact on my pocketbook and the communities we are in. In this area we have a strong influence of leftist green activists who have a loud voice. It is even worse in nearby Asheville.

In this area most folks have been moderates or conservatives, very few real liberals at the local level. This has changed in the last few elections and now we are going left at a fast pace. This area has always had a strong industrial base that has driven most of the economic issues, but lower central Michigan has lost a major part of the industrial base. The result is that there are more and more people in the hand-out line from government programs, which results in government promising more hand outs for the average voter. At the State level, Michigan has always been on the left, with a lot of Unions driving the state politics. That has changed with a very liberal Governor driving State policy even more to the extreme left.

Times they are a changin'.

Why should it? Can we honestly say that our voting (or the candidates who are elected) has any bearing on the economy? We THINK so...but...proof?

I pray...I listen...I vote.

Thank GOD it isn't in my hands... =)
